How interchange works

When a customer uses your ATM, their bank pays an interchange fee to the processing network. A small portion of that interchange covers your processing costs (PAI fee). The surcharge — the fee the customer agrees to pay — goes directly to you, the operator. You set the surcharge amount (typically $2.50–$3.50). More transactions = more revenue.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need experience to run an ATM business?

No. Most of our operators had zero ATM experience before starting. We handle the technical side — processing, connectivity, compliance — and teach you the business fundamentals. If you can find a good location and manage a small team, you can run a route.

How much cash do I need to get started?

The cash float depends on your number of ATMs and transaction volume. A single ATM typically needs $2,000–$5,000 in the cassette. Many operators start with one machine and reinvest surcharge revenue to fund additional ATMs. If you use our cash loading network, we can handle the float for you.

Can I do this part-time?

Absolutely. Many operators start part-time while keeping their day job. Once your ATMs are placed and connected, they run largely on autopilot. You check the Route Manager dashboard, coordinate cash loads, and collect revenue. Most part-time operators manage 3–10 machines.

How do I find good ATM locations?

Look for cash-heavy businesses with consistent foot traffic: bars, convenience stores, gas stations, laundromats, event venues, hotels, and smoke shops. We provide location scouting guidance and can help evaluate foot traffic and revenue potential for any site you're considering.

What does processing cost?

PAI processing charges a small per-transaction fee. You keep 100% of the surcharge — the fee comes from the interchange, not your revenue. We'll walk you through the exact fee structure during your consultation. Most operators find the economics very favorable compared to other processors.

How does cash loading work?

Cash loaders visit your ATMs on a regular schedule (typically 1–2 times per week) to refill the cassette. You can load your own machines, hire local loaders, or use our nationwide cash loading network. The Route Manager software tracks cash levels and alerts you when a machine is running low.
